Besigye and Otunnu ask the world to support human rights in Uganda

KPFA Evening News, 03.02.2014

Dr. Kizza Besigye, the former leader of Uganda's Forum for Democratic Change, was also the party's presidential candidate in the country's last three elections. Ugandan President Yoweri Museveni signed Uganda's Anti-Homosexuality Act into law on 02.26.2014, after news and argument over it had topped international headlines about Uganda for nearly five years. Ugandan opposition leader and three time presidential candidate Dr. Kizza Besigye became one of the first non-gay leaders to speak out against it, but he also said that the West should have sanctioned Ugandan President Yoweri Museveni years ago for violating the fundamental human right to life. University of Connecticut Professor Olara Otunnu added that the U.S. had instead bankrolled Museveni as he massacred Ugandans and citizens of neighboring countries.
