Uganda still won't hang the gays, but it will extract billions of barrels of oil

Uganda's Parliament failed to pass the infamous Anti-Homosexuality Bill, otherwise known as the Hang-the-Gays Bill, in December, despite the Speaker of Parlliament's promise to make it a Christmas gift to Ugandans.  The country's Parliament did, however, pass the Petroleum Exploration, Development and Production Bill, regarding the exploitation of vast oil reserves in Lake Albert, on Uganda’s western border with the Democratic Republic of the Congo.  KPFA spoke to Ugandan activist Jackie Asiimwe-Mwesige about both bills.

Congolese, Rwandan and Ugandan activists are asking their allies to sign petitions, and call the office of UN Ambassador Susan Rice, to ask her to stop blocking a serious UN Security Council response to the latest report of the UN Group of Expert on the Democratic Republic of the Congo. The report documents Rwandan and Ugandan backing and control of the M23 militia fighting in Congo. Last Monday the militia seized Goma, the minerals trading hub and capital of Congo’s North Kivu Province. KPFA spoke to Friends of the Congo's Student Coordinator Kambale Musavuli about why they are asking allies to call U.S. Ambassador to the UN Susan Rice and attend a global rally for Congo on November 28th.

Cholera breaks out in camp for Congolese fleeing war
