The Northern California Society of Professional Journalists announced this week that it will award Berkeley Copwatch one of its James Madison Freedom of Information Awards at its awards ceremony in San Francisco on March 12th. The award recognizes the citizen investigation and activism that caused the cities of Berkeley and Albany and the University of California-Berkeley to cancel a request for a $170,000 grant from the Homeland Security Department to acquire an armored personnel carrier. KPFA spoke to Berkeley Copwatch member Andrea Prichett.
